  • Digital Tempus Appoints Dr. John J. Coyle to Advisory Board

     

    Distinguished founder of Penn State’s Supply Chain program to help shape Digital Tempus strategy

    Bethesda, Maryland – February 9, 2009 – Digital Tempus is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. John J. Coyle as Chairman of the Digital Tempus Advisory Board. Dr. Coyle will help Digital Tempus evolve the company’s business model for consulting and managed business intelligence services focused on business planning and integrated business management.

    John J. Coyle was the first person to teach a course at Penn State under the label "Business Logistics". After joining the faculty in 1961, he played an active role in developing the logistics program at Penn State and later the supply chain program. Dr. Coyle served as Executive Director of the Center for Supply Chain Research (CSCR) from 1989 until 2000. He is currently the Director of Corporate Relations for CSCR and Professor Emeritus of Supply and Information Systems.

    Dr. Coyle’s career highlights include 13 college and university awards for outstanding teaching and advising.  In 2004, he was named Logistics and Transportation Person of the Year by the Philadelphia Traffic Club.  In 2003, he was awarded the Eccles Medal by the International Society of Logistics for outstanding service to the Department of Defense. In 2001, he received the Distinguished Lions Paw Award for outstanding service to Penn State University. He received the Council of Logistics Management's highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, in 1991.
    For 30 years, Dr. Coyle served as the faculty athletic representative to the NCAA and the Big Ten for Penn State (1970-2000). He served as Special Assistant for Strategic Planning to the President of Penn State University from 1983 to 1986 and from 1989 to 1991. During 1982 to 1987 he served as Assistant Dean and Director of the Undergraduate Program, and from 1987 to 1989, as the Senior Associate Dean in The Smeal College of Business Administration at Penn State.  Dr. Coyle has also served as the Chairman of the University Faculty Senate. Dr. Coyle has written more than 100 publications and has co-authored two textbooks, one of which is in its 8th edition. He also has provided in-house educational programs and consulting for more than 400 companies. Dr. Coyle currently serves on the Boards of three logistics companies.
